Nearby Cities and Towns
Lake Adger is less than an hour from Asheville and even closer to several quaint Western Carolina towns including Rutherforton, Tryon Hendersonville, Saluda, North Carolina and Landrum, South Carolina. We’re also about 35 minutes from Mills River, NC where you’ll find the Sierra Nevada brewery and there are quite a number of micro-breweries in the area, especially in and around Asheville. We are also close to the Tryon International Equestrian Center and Lake Lure.
Boating on Lake Adger
Lake Adger is a relatively small lake with 438 surface acres. In order to help keep its tranquil environment there is an 80 horsepower limit on pontoon boats and a 60 horsepower restriction on any other water craft. Also, jet skis and water skiing are not permitted on the lake. More on Boating Limits.
Otherwise fishing boats, canoes, kayaks and other watercraft are welcome, and guests can enjoy area waterfalls and travel upstream on the Green River. More on Lake Adger and Green River kayaking.
The Green River has several areas with world-class whitewater activity!
If you’re interested in taking a ride downstream you can check out Green River Adventures in nearby Saluda, NC. French Broad Rafting, on the French Broad River, located on the other side of Asheville, is a bit farther away but also offers zip line excursions. There are also zip line excursions close by at Lake Lure and on the Green River.
Fishing Resources
Fishing is welcome on Lake Adger and up the Green River. Several types of bass, catfish and crappie are native to the area, and the lake has historically been stocked with musky with a number of record catches recorded over the years. – More on Adger Fishing / Musky Fishing
Hiking and Riding
Horseback riding is very popular in the Lake Adger area and a number of venues and trails are available. More about horseback riding.
Many beautiful hiking trails are available around the Mill Spring, NC area. Chimney Rock located at nearby Lake Lure has several trails and the Little Bradley waterfall trail near Saluda, NC is a fairly easy hike and a beautiful view. For a trip off the beaten path consider the Bat Cave Preserve in Hickory Nut Gorge, available during the summer months. More about area trails.
Golf
There are several golf courses within 30 minutes of Lake Adger. The Cleghorn Plantation, ranked #6 in the state by golflink.com is in nearby Rutherfordton. For something a little quicker, the Lake Lure Golf Club has a 9-hole community course available for play year-round. There’s also the Highland Lake Golf Club and Crooked Creek course in Hendersonville, NC.
Restaurants
There is a lovely restaurant called Trattoria Giordiani on Highway 108 on the way to Columbus and the nearby local towns have many restaurants that we are anxious to visit. Hendersonville Main Street offers many types of eateries and in the warmer weather outdoor dining is offered. Asheville is a gourmand’s delight.
Grocery Shopping
The best local grocery store is Ingles, which is comparable to a Harris Teeter or Krogers. The closest locations are in the town of Lake Lure and in Landrum, SC. There is also a Food Lion and a Bi-Lo nearby.
